CEO
Carol Ryan obtained a B Bibl from UNISA. She worked for the Cape Provincial Library Services for 5 years, first in the Robertson region travelling department and then heading up the Special Request department. She then worked in primary school libraries for 20 years. Her last position was Teacher Librarian at The Grove Primary School which she held for 13 years. There she fostered a love for reading amongst the children, particularly during the annual Readathons which she organised in order to promote reading and literacy skills throughout the school.
Carol coached the school’s literature quiz teams which reached the national finals of the renowned international Kids’ Lit Quiz for 6 consecutive years, and the World Finals in Oxford in 2007 and in South Africa in 2009.
Carol was a founder member of the Libra group of school librarians, established over 20 years ago and still in existence. She also served on the Executive Committee of IBBYSA for a few years.
Against this background Carol formed the company BookMark with Kathy Madlener, ex librarian of Springfield Convent, to impart her knowledge and passion for children’s literature.
